《印度時報》報導指，因為連續兩天的大雨於7日傍晚引發山崩，山上崩落的泥漿與巨石壓在路過的巴士車頂上，當時車上約有30至35名乘客，山崩之後，附近村民自發出動救援，接著趕到的也加入挖土行動，發現許多乘客在座位上當場被壓死，而搜救團隊救出4名生還者，包括3名孩童，已被送往附近醫院。

印度總理莫迪對死者表示哀悼，祝願傷者早日康復，並表示政府將發放20萬盧比（約6.8萬元台幣）撫卹金給每位罹難者家屬，另發送慰問金給傷患。地方首長表示，搜救行動將持續下去。
喜馬偕爾邦的雨季自6月下旬開始，自那時起當地已有470人死於豪雨造成的水災或山崩。
